Positives:

  • Power: Ximines’ game is built off of the power rush. And he does it well. He has formidable strength and can beat offensive tackles off of a bull rush fairly easily. If he is able to get a jump off the line before the tackle is set, his power will almost guarantee a sack. It causes him to be a focus for the opposing team, usually putting extra blockers on his side.
  • Hands: Very sophisticated hand fighting technique. Quick hands, reacts very well to offensive tackles punches. Does a fantastic job of taking what the tackle gives him.
  • Footwork: Has great footwork to give him good leverage. Goes back to ability to take what the tackle gives. Fantastic on stunts, uses his footwork to keep him anchored and gives him fantastic leverage. Strong footwork and base is the root for his strength rush.
  • Length: Very lengthy, uses it in different ways. He has great ability to bat down passes while rushing the passer. Length also allows minimal contact to body while rushing the passer, as it helps keep the tackle at bay.

Negatives:

  • Flexibility: Lacks bend. Needs to be more fluid, very choppy in movement.
  • Speed: Lack of speed and bend makes him a one dimensional pass rusher.
  • Coverage: This is more of a conditional negative. Many teams will be interested in him at outside linebacker and he hasn’t shown enough in pass coverage to show he is not a liability in that department.

Summary:

Oshane Ximines’ ultimate ceiling will be limited by his lack of speed and flexibility. His strength definitely sets him apart from other pass rushers, as well as his hand fighting prowess. He is going to be a solid rotational piece who can contribute on special teams.
